Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for VMC certificates
We have prepared a summary of the most frequently asked VMC certificate questions. Here you will find all the answers to your questions.
Does the logo appear in all email clients?
The biggest supporter of displaying the logo in email is Google (co-author of BIMI); Gmail has supported VMC since its inception. VMC also operates in Yahoo and the certificates were recently adopted by Apple, too. On the other hand, only Microsoft does not support VMC (Outlook) and has not yet applied to accept it.
What is the difference between BIMI and VMC?
BIMI stands for Brand Indicators for Message Identification and is a specification that allows you to display a logo next to an authenticated email. It is an open specification that anyone can use without charge or restriction.
VMC (Verified Mark Certificate) is an acronym for a certificate that must be obtained to display your company's logo using BIMI technology.
BIMI can be set up by anyone for their own mail and for free, but no logo will ever appear in email clients as this requires VMC certification (the email service provider requires it, such as Google in Gmail). It is necessary to authenticate and regulate logo use in BIMI. Otherwise, anyone could set up any logo (such as a logo of a bank) and misuse it for phishing.
